The making of ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’

Would you like to see how my latest fibre artwork came together?

‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ took a total of 41 hours (including time for ideation, selecting the colour palette, and tidying up afterwards).

I work in three distinct layers. The first layer blocks out the colours. The second layer builds up the richness of the colour combinations and shading. The third layer is where I concentrate on the highlights, shadows and detail.

You might notice that I changed the shape of the girl’s hand early on. Then, much farther down the track, I decided that I wanted her eyes to be partially open rather than closed. Fortunately, working with fibre allows a certain flexibility to change your mind!
