‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ by Sarah Ritchie

‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ fibre art by Sarah Ritchie

My latest creation! This piece has been created specifically for an exhibition coming up in July (though it is for sale prior). The exhibition will be with other fibre arts, with the theme ‘Resilience: the fibre that connects us’.

‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ by Sarah Ritchie

450mm x 340mm

New Zealand wool fibre, silk, cotton and bamboo

It took me a while to think of how I wanted to portray ‘resilience’, then I hit upon a dandelion. My rationale took some explaining to my husband, but it was totally clear in my own mind (smile!), so here goes:

A dandelion serves as a symbol of strength amidst challenges. Just as the delicate dandelion, human resilience experiences moments of vulnerability. Yet, much like the delicate seeds dispersing on the wind, this vulnerability holds the innate power to regenerate and eventually to grow again.

Well, it made sense to me!!!
