My brain and life often run at a million miles an hour. I’m sure many of you feel the same. This fast-paced lifestyle, while productive, leaves little room for thinking, planning, wondering, or questioning. But as artists, writers, creatives, and creators, we need to make space in our lives to do just that.
There’s a saying that goes, “We need to work ON our business as well as IN our business.” The same applies to our creative practice. It’s easy to get lost in the doing – painting the next piece, creating the next project, meeting deadlines – but are we taking time to step back, reflect, and focus on the bigger picture?
This month, I’m challenging both you and myself to carve out time to work on your creative practice. Block out moments to plan, dream, and nurture those ideas that often get pushed aside. Ask yourself:
Are you allowing space for creative exploration?
Are you aligning your art with your long-term goals?
Have you given yourself room to wonder, question, and push boundaries?
What new techniques or ideas have you been wanting to try?
Are you stuck in a routine, or are you actively seeking creative growth?
How does your art reflect who you are right now, and who you want to become?
This challenge is as much for me as it is for you. Let’s take a step back, breathe, and refocus. Who knows what new possibilities might emerge?
Let me know how you get on!
