As the year draws to a close, it's natural to turn our eyes toward the horizon, imagining the goals and ambitions we want to pursue in the coming year. But before you dive headfirst into planning, I want to challenge you to pause, take a breath, and look back at the path you’ve walked this year.
Building a creative practice isn’t easy – it’s a journey filled with experimentation, challenges, and growth. As Artpreneurs, we’re often so focused on what’s next that we forget to celebrate how far we’ve come. But reflecting on our progress is just as vital as planning our future.
This December, I invite you to carve out a quiet moment to reflect on your year. Grab a notebook and write down:
Your achievements: What milestones did you reach in your art practice? These could be tangible successes (like selling a piece, hosting an exhibition, or growing your social media following) or personal victories (like trying a new medium, overcoming creative block, or sticking to a routine).
Your challenges: What obstacles did you face, and how did you overcome them? Reflecting on these will remind you of your resilience.
Your growth: In what ways have you improved or evolved as an artist? Perhaps you honed a skill, embraced a new perspective, or found deeper meaning in your work.
Once you’ve made your list, take a moment to appreciate it. You’ve accomplished so much – whether it feels big or small, it’s part of your journey. Let that momentum fuel your confidence as you begin setting goals for the new year.
When you reflect on all you’ve already achieved, you’ll find it easier to dream bigger and trust yourself to take on those ambitious goals. You’ve done it before, and you can do it again.
Here’s to looking back with pride and ahead with boldness. Keep creating, keep dreaming, and remember: your art makes the world a more vibrant place!
