As we enter July (the middle of the year), it’s the perfect time to reflect on your digital presence and ensure your social media profiles work effectively for your art business. This month, I challenge you to conduct a thorough social media audit to enhance your branding, engagement, and overall online impact.


Social media is a powerful tool for artists to connect with audiences, showcase work, and drive business growth. However, an outdated or inconsistent online presence can hinder your potential. A social media audit helps identify areas for improvement, ensuring your profiles accurately reflect your brand and engage your followers effectively.


Steps for a successful social media audit

  • Review social platforms: Are you using the right social media platform for your target audience and persona(s)? If not, now is an excellent time to change! It’s better to start anew on the right platform than to waste time creating content on a platform that is not getting you any engagement or traction toward your strategic business and marketing goals.

  • Review profile information: Update your bio, profile picture, and contact information on all platforms. Ensure your brand voice is consistent and that links to your website or shop are current.

  • Maintain visual consistency: Assess your recent posts to ensure they align with your brand aesthetics. Consistent imagery, colour schemes, and filters help create a cohesive and professional look.

  • Analyse engagement: Look at your posts’ engagement metrics. Identify which types of content (e.g., photos, videos, stories) resonate most with your audience. Use this insight to refine your content strategy.

  • Check for broken links and inactive accounts: Ensure all links in your profiles and posts are functional. Consider deactivating or revamping accounts that are no longer active or aligned with your brand.

  • Audit hashtags and keywords: Review the hashtags and keywords you use. Ensure they are relevant and popular and effectively increase the visibility of your posts. Use the right number of hashtags, as each social platform advises.

  • Assess follower interaction: Engage with your audience by promptly responding to comments and messages. Building a community is crucial for fostering loyalty and attracting new followers.


By refining your profiles and strategies, you’ll strengthen your online presence and better connect with your audience. Take note of areas for improvement and set actionable goals to enhance your social media effectiveness.
