Sometimes, the best things come together when you least expect them. Art of Us (a community of multidisciplinary, contemporary artists from Auckland and Otago, New Zealand) is that for me – a serendipitous meeting of like-minded artists, seemingly random yet arriving in each of our lives at just the right time.
Our group was born from connections made in surprising places. Holly, Vanessa, and I met through the UK-based United Artspace, a global online artist community. Katie joined us after we met her in Toipoto, a New Zealand artist mentoring programme, and later she introduced us to Sara. We quickly realised that despite our unique backgrounds and artistic practices, we all shared a vision for a supportive, tightly-knit artist community.
What makes Art of Us so special to me is the way we blend our differences to create something greater. Each of us works in different mediums, with distinct subjects and styles. Some of us are seasoned artists with established followings, while others are just stepping into the art world. But we’re all on a similar journey in one important area: the business of art. We each know that navigating the professional side of art – building a sustainable practice, connecting with audiences, and honing our brand – is as challenging as creating the art itself.
Art of Us is our answer to that challenge. We are here to cheer each other on, share insights, and celebrate each step forward. Together, we lift each other up, and I’m grateful every day for the support we’ve built in each other.
To me, Art of Us is a dream realised – a community of artists who genuinely champion each other’s successes. I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this journey.
