Rainbow Fish

Did you know that scientists have discovered over 1060 new species of mammals, fish and birds on, in and around the island of New Guinea over the last ten years?! That’s two new species per week, and that’s astounding! One of these discoveries is a “new” species of Rainbow Fish (Melanotaenia).

Not being a fishy-fanatic I had not heard of the Rainbow Fish before, but they are – apparently – a popular freshwater aquarium species…and no wonder by the look of them!

It’s as if God pulled out his paintbrush and set to decorating his waters with these amazing fish. Makes me half-want to set up a freshwater fish tank and adopt some some of these beauties (OK, not really…please, don’t buy me any…but you get the idea!).
