Butterfly house

It may have been just a “New Zealand thing”, but do you remember the ’70s (or earlier) trend of featuring a very large butterfly on the exterior of a house? It was a hugely popular architectural “feature” when I was young and probably appeared around the same time as the set of three flying ducks on the wall.

I recently spied this home (just a couple of minute’s drive from where we live). The owners must be nostalgic or artistic or slightly quirky (or all three), as – lo and behold – there was the butterfly!

Perhaps the trend is coming around again…or perhaps we can kickstart it ourselves. Go on…find yourself a house butterfly today. You know you want one!
