If anyone would like to altruistically give me two plane tickets to New York for sometime between 4 May and 31 July 2011 I would think you the most wonderful-est philanthropist ever!
The photos, above, could just as easily be works of art as haute couture pieces. The garment top left makes me melt with admiration. I love the quote (below) which says Alexander McQueen was an “artist whose medium of expression was fashion“. Isn’t that so true that – while the world tries to compartmentalise and define “art”- creativity, and the work of an artist, can manifest itself in so many different forms.
Lee Alexander McQueen has left a phenomenal body of work for us to enjoy and be inspired by. This exhibition will be stunning.
The exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute, will celebrate the late Alexander McQueen’s extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation, which took place after his death in February 2010, Mr. McQueen challenged and expanded the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity. His iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion.
