Neon artist Eric Ehlenbergers Jellyfish Series

I have always loved looking at neon signs (especially the pink ones), however – and please excuse my ignorance – I have never thought of neon as an “artform” (sorry all you neon artists out there). My colleague called it a “Dah” moment…when it should be obvious, but wasn’t…oops.

Imagine my surprise when I came across the Museum of Neon Art (a.k.a. “MONA”…in downtown Los Angeles…not to be confused with “MOMA“, New York). I then Googled “neon art” and “neon sculpture”, and a brave new world opened up.

As you can see, from Eric Ehlenberger’s amazing “Jellyfish Series” (above), neon is not just the pretty sign on the street corner any longer!
