women shouldn’t wear black…

Recently, my brother-in-law stated: “it should be illegal for women to wear black“. He went on to try to justify his statement by adding that there were so many wonderfully-coloured clothes available – for women – that there was no need for women to wear black.

He could have been trying to wind me up as I was wearing a black top at the time (!), but I think he was quite serious. His point might well have a grain of validity (for anyone, not just women)…what do you think?

Love, love, love black! I can always punch it up with bright colors or jewelry. I like bright colors, too. . .but my “go to” color is black!

I am wearing less and less these days as my wardrobe gets insanely brighter. However, I agree with you. One of my favourite outfits is a black basee…Simon gave me a large, square, dichromatic glass pendant, and it’s awash with colour. Never fails to invoke a compliment, and that is only because it is offset against the black background.

I tend to wear a lot of black, and my husband likes it. I can tell myself that black is always “safe” and “classic” but maybe it’s also “lazy” and “unimaginative.” Maybe I should start to think of it as something that “matches every other color” and go from there.

I am exactly like you Patti…using black as the base colour. It means I only have to have two main colours for shoes (and handbags)…black or brown! My wardrobe used to be completely either black or blue…you should see it now…every colour of the rainbow (almost!). I have decided I LOVE colourful clothes (says she who is currently wearing a black/white polka dot top and black trousers!).
