balloon on the water…

Balloon on the waterOn a fabulous summer’s day – a few weeks ago – we took to the water on the Waitemata Harbour (Auckland, NZ).

On our return journey, we noticed an object bobbing on the surface. Bright pink. You couldn’t miss it.

As we moved in closer we wondered if it was a diver’s buoy, or the buoy of a fishing net. Eventually a chorus of echoing voices concurred…it was a balloon. A balloon? On the water?

It was quite a forlorn sight actually. It made me think of Canvas #6: Waiting for Wind. In that instance the beautiful balloons – destined to fly – were caught, mercilessly, on the powerlines. This time, the balloon was earth-bound. Trapped on the water.

We are all designed to fly. We have the ability and the predisposition to soar. So then, what is holding us back, bobbing on the water…and what can we do about it?
