Earlier this week I was talking with a sales rep from a paper merchant. How often have you heard (or said) that “using paper is killing trees“? Can I tell you something that I have learned after 20 years in the print and design business? Wood for papermaking is usually sourced from tree farms, where far more trees are planted than cut down. What’s more, paper isn’t made from ’roundwood” (or logs), it’s made from all the offcuts and scraps left behind by the timber industry!
How often have I perpetuated the falsehood that printing is a waste of our natural forestry resource? I feel quite ashamed really – and all because I assumed I was right!
How often do we – unwittingly – spout untruths and misinformed opinions just becuse they seem right in our heads? Perhaps we should learn to better educate our brain before we exercise our tongue!
