Happy New Year to you! I have never been one for making New Year’s resolutions, so – instead of a resolution – how about this for an alternative…
Around 10 years ago (in the days when I watched daytime TV), I remember Oprah Winfrey shared – on her show – about how she had created a “gratitude journal”. Every day she would write one new thing that she was grateful for, just to remind herself how blessed she really was.
Don’t think you have much to be grateful for? How about starting with something like:
- The air you breathe. For most of us it is clean(-ish) and bountiful.
- Your eyesight or hearing.
- A roof over your head.
- Food on your table (even if it is meager).
- Your freedom of thought and speech.
Still stumped? Give it a go. You will surprise yourself!
For the next six days, to see in the first week of 2011, I am going to celebrate – and share with you – some things that I am grateful for. Even if you don’t create an Oprah-styled “gratitude journal” I encourage you to take some time to reflect on the positive things in your life. You will find yourself encouraged…I am sure of it!
