Did you know that you can buy a ukelele (in Auckland, New Zealand) in one of at least SEVEN different colours? I am incredibly surprised that our population is big enough to sell a ukelele in any other colour other than natural wood!
Recently my good friend Tracy bought herself a bright red ukelele and joined a learn-to-play-the-ukelele class.
Tracy is not what you would describe as your “typical” ukelele playing type…white, middle class, late 40s, likes singing but not exactly “musical” and not a discernible drop of Polynesian blood in her body. Yet, she is giving it a go!
What I admire – about Tracy – is though she carries fears and self-doubts, she is willing to try new things no matter her age: tap dancing, singing, drawing. She is a great example of someone willing to break through self-imposed barriers, explore new things, develop latent talents and enjoy life.
If Tracy can do it, you can too! New opportunities abound, so pick your favourite ukelele colour and go for it!
