We can talk about how important it is to live your dream, but the reality is that most people will never action any steps to make that dream a reality. Today I feel inspired by a group of dream-chasers…en masse.
When I am not immersed in my day job I tutor a night school Diploma of Graphic Design course. Today is my student’s last ever class. In just a few short hours they will have completed a two year course, which – in of itself – is not that remarkable…people study and graduate all the time. What sets these students apart is that they range in age from 21 years to middle aged. They all have full time jobs or are full time parents. They give up not just the two nights a week to attend the classes, but are expected to study at least 15 hours every week outside of class time.
After two long, tough years, the students have successfully turned their dreams – full of nervous hope, self doubt and uncertainty of the future – into reality. They have sacrificed personal time, family time, friendships, holidays, socialising, money, sleep and sanity. They have worked so hard, learned so much and have shed a lot of tears…and they have radically grown through the process. None of those students is the same person I met last year. Not one.
I am so very proud of the class, and very proud to see the amazing fruits of all their hard work. It is proof to me that – through hard work and determination – you CAN chase your dream…and change your life!
