To find the unique voice within your artwork I feel that you have to firstly know and embrace who you are as a person (or, at least, be on that voyage of discovery).
For most of my life I have never sought to find out what makes me unique. I have been content to live my life well enough, but – for the most part – have imitated others’ successes along the way. I have never made the effort to find my own, unique voice (though that is starting to slowly change).
This has been evidenced in my artwork. I have never had the courage to look inside, question who I am and what I want to say, and then say it – with confidence – on the canvas.
Until one reaches that stage of discovery and maturity, how can one’s artistic results be anything other than mediocre?
