From The Nelson Mail (August 2010): “[Fashion] Designers who are most revered in the industry are those who push the boundaries. Trends never begin as safe, expected versions of what everyone is wearing anyway. In this way, fashion is to be revered for the way it pushes us outside of our comfort zone.”
From New Zealand designer Karen Walker: “It is the job of a fashion designer to challenge our own idea of what’s current – to question everything comfortable.”
Fashion designers do it. Artisans do it. I would like to do it too…to attain the skill and confidence level to begin “pushing the boundary edges”. It will be those who perfect their “edgecraft” (as Seth Godin puts it) that will truly make an impact on people.
