Though I love dancing and observing dance, I find the contemporary genre somewat uncomfortable to watch.
Maybe that is because I simply do not understand contemporary dance in order to appreciate it. Perhaps it is because it forces me to watch the exploration of raw emotion.
Dance is a potent vehicle for displaying and invoking emotion, and contemporary dance seems to strip that emotion bare as it plays out on stage. As the viewer it pulls you along on the journey and forces you to address the areas of the being that we rarely choose to confront. How I would like to achieve that with my paintings – to take the viewer on an emotional journey to the core of their being! Surely that is the epitome of artistic success?
